Help
us to take a stand for small animal awareness!
Show your support for all animals,
great and small, by attending the very first Australian Cavy
Sanctuary (ACS) major event. The ACS is a completely non-profit
and non-funded community purpose organisation managed by a
dedicated team of shelter managers and volunteers who are truly
passionate about the welfare and awareness of guinea pigs.
Our objectives are:
1. To educate the community
on the correct care and humane treatment of guinea pigs.
2. A commitment to raising awareness and working to change the
stereotypical low valued view guinea pigs have endured.
3. To supply aid and sanctuary to ill, injured, neglected, pregnant
and found guinea pigs.
4. To re-home guinea pigs appropriately
through adoption procedures maintained by the operation of
shelters managed by ACS volunteers and staff.
5. To take whatever
steps are necessary within the law to improve the quality of
life, value and respect of all guinea pigs and to be the voice
for those that are trapped in situations of abuse and mistreatment.
6. To support and actively endorse all aspects
of animal welfare. |
The ACS ‘Pignic
in the Park’ is an educational day where ACS and
other organisations can bring forth products and information
that are not always readily available on the market. For
the kids there will be a Christmas twist, and other fun-filled
educational games running throughout the day. For anyone
passionate about their pets and to all those who have supported
ACS or who have adopted guinea pigs through us, this event
is definitely not to be missed.
This is also an event to raise some much needed funds for
the organisation as we struggle constantly throughout each
year to cover the ongoing costs. ACS
shelters are overseen by Brisbane shelter manager and ACS
Founder, Jessica Proietti. All managers of ACS shelters pay
for all costs of managing their shelters from their own pockets
- including medical and vet bills, general care and feed
bills, and other funds which may be spent on awareness displays
and events.
The long term goal for the
ACS is to expand and eventually raise enough funds to purchase
land in order to build a fully operational large-scale
small animal shelter.
The ACS has invited many like-minded organisations
and stallholders to this event that we genuinely support.

The
Magical Scarecrows ™ were originally conceived
by best-selling novelist and biographer, Lynn Santer,
when she was only nine years old. She rewrote the stories
for her sister’s children over 20 years later,
becoming “Auntie Lynn” to Joshua and Lachlan,
her two nephews.
Early in 2007, purely as a philanthropic
gesture to give back to the societies who have so warmly
embraced her adult thrillers and biographies, Lynn elected
to have her children’s stories professionally illustrated,
edited and produced to give away to charities. The concept
exploded so rapidly it became necessary to open a commercial
arm to support the philanthropic side of the operation. “Auntie
Lynn’s” celebrity friends enthusiastically
endorsed the stories, many recording readings of individual
chapters for DVD sales.
Today the Magical
Scarecrows products have
expanded to include an ever-increasing range of merchandise
and free games to stimulate children’s

Celebrities Get up
Close and Personal with the Sharks for
Sea World’s Swim4Kids Charity Event! |
For the second year running
the Royal Children’s Hospital partnered with Sea
World and 97.3FM in a 100 km “tag team” swim
from Sea World on the Gold Coast to the Breakfast Creek
Hotel in Brisbane to raise funds for seriously ill children
and their families.
Gold medal Olympian Jessicah
Schipper joined eight year old Gus Wauchope, who has undergone
a massive 18 operations, for the first leg of the Sea World
Swim4Kids event. Gold Coast Titan Ashley Harrison, Silver
medal Olympian Loretta Harrop and radio personality 97.3FM’s
Robin Bailey also braved the shark cage for the Sea World
Swim4Kids charity fundraising event. The swim begun on
Thursday 16th October and finished at the Breakfast Creek
Hotel on the morning of Sunday 19th October. One hundred
swimmers each completed a 1 km leg, swimming in a shark
cage towed by Sea World’s Research and Rescue boat,
Sea World 1. Each swimmer actively raised funds by getting
people to sponsor their leg and all proceeds of the Swim4Kids
event go to the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Sea World Director of Marine Sciences Trevor Long said
that Sea World was proud to be involved in such a worthwhile
event.
“It’s a great
initiative and an opportunity for everyday people to get
in the water and make a difference”, he said.

> > Urge China to Protect the King of the Jungle |
Extensive
poaching has decimated a number of species of rare animals,
including tigers and the animals
they prey on. Yet
China is considering a policy that would open its market
to tiger parts, which could entice more poaching of wild
tigers. Chinese officials promise to keep the ban on
wild tiger products. But that guarantee is a thin, unenforceable
and inhumane distinction to draw between wild and farmed
tiger parts.
Wild
tigers struggle enough from rapidly shrinking habitat
and food sources. Humans have hunted the tiger's
primary prey, such as deer and wild pigs, almost
to extinction. Lifting China's successful ban on
the tiger part trade would only increase the threat
from profit-driven poachers by placing an irresistible
bounty on the head of wild tigers.
The beautiful wild tiger is heading
quickly toward extinction, with its diminishing
numbers estimated at a meager 3,500. |
 |
| |
Please
help protect the last remaining wild tigers
from extinction.
Sign
our petition to China's Department of Wildlife
Conservation today, and urge them to keep their
effective ban on the tiger part trade.
